[edit] Deletions
From the earliest version of this page: "The junior class Physics teacher is by far the most disagreeable, and he has a reputation for dispensing vulgarity and insulting putdowns." It was removed because another user considered it an attack. While I agree that it does not belong on the main page, the comment itself has merit and deserves further discussion. Perhaps it can lead to a section on current and past teachers.
I also noticed that someone removed 'Trolls, Gerbils, Urchins, or THO' from the mascots section. If anyone can give a reason, it would be appreciated. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Schadenfreude328 (talk • contribs) 02:24, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- As far as the teachers: look around at the other Governor's Schools articles, linked to from the bottom of the article. Generally, teachers are current information and not appropriate to an encyclopedia. Founding teachers might be noteworthy.
- As far as the mascots: Thanks for adding them per my request on your talk page. User:Jkatzen removed them (he's very active on the VA gov. school pages), probably thinking it was vandalism. They're certainly unusual mascots, do you have a source to show that those are really the mascots? (Being a part-time school, does the school even have an official mascot?) -- stillnotelf is invisible 03:42, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

- In my two years at the school, I don't remember any mention of a mascot. The most common among the students would be Gerbil or Troll. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Schadenfreude328 (talk • contribs) 05:23, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

- As a student at SVGS, I don't think that there is really an official mascot. "Gerbil" is just a humorous term sometimes used by teachers and senior students to refer to new students. The only thing I know about the other is that a character with the last name "Troll" often appears in scenario problems on tests and homwork. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.12.41.72 (talk • contribs) 13:58, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Full name
Someone changed the name of the school to be "Shenandoah Valley Governor's School for Math, Science, and Technology" in the box on the right of the page. Are there any references for this as the full name of the school? I believe the VGSP site lists the name only as "Shenandoah Valley Governor's School" (which is the current title of this article). If no references can be dug up, I may revert this latest change. Jkatzen 06:27, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
- I did a little digging, and based on the actual school's web site (http://www.csvrgs.k12.va.us/info_overview.htm), there are actually two parallel programs available, one of which is math/science/technology and the other arts/humanities. I can't find any support for the name as suggested by the last editor. Jkatzen 06:32, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

- Reverting was definitely a good move. The Arts and Humanities program is new as of the Summer of 2002. I don't know much about the program, but there has been some friendly rivalry between the two programs. This is likely an example.
