Sherry Freebery

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sherry Freebery is the former chief administrative officer of New Castle County, Delaware.

She and former County Executive Thomas P. Gordon were indicted on fraud and racketeering charges. Freebery, a Democrat, denied all charges and claimed her prosecution was politically motivated and connected to the controversy surrounding the Congressional investigation into the dismissals of U.S. attorneys.

After a five year investigation, U.S. Prosecutor Colm Connolly dropped all but one charge against Ms. Freebery and Mr. Gordon. Freebery plead guilty to one felony count of fraud, was fined but served no jail time.

In a conversation with the honorable Judge John Fullam of the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court, Connolly stated he "just wanted to get out from under this case, Your Honor."
