Sherman Oaks Elementary School is a public K-5 elementary school in Los Angeles, California.
Sherman Oaks Elementary is a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The school is in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, and currently has about 800 students enrolled. The school was opened in 1926 under the name Sherman Oaks School, in the same location. However, over the years, the school has expanded its facilities, and has educated many different grades along the way. Many alumni like to return to the school and share how it was when they were there. For example, the Main Office, currently on the south side of the campus on Greenleaf Street, used to be housed on the north side of campus on Dickens Street. Also, some parents who have enrolled their own children in the school, tell how they even attended the school for a brief stint for middle school grades (while middle school spaces were under construction elsewhere). Now, Sherman Oaks is home to children in Kindergarten through grade 5.
The school prides itself on its academic excellence, emphasis on communications and the arts, and its rich cultural diversity, populated with families from around the world.
