The school mascot is a warrior and the sports teams currently play in the AA Northwestern District and Region II.

As of June 2007, the roster of clubs and activities at Sherando High School included the following:

They have had numerous athletes and teams reach the state level. In the 2005 fall season the highest finishing team was Volleyball as the State Runner-ups, but Boys Cross Country and Football were close behind as both teams finished 3rd in the state. In the winter several indoor track athletes, swimmers, and wrestlers made it to the state level but no teams. In the spring several outdoor track members, which accounted for both of the schools state champions that year, Ryan Witt in the 1600 m run and Latasha Watson in the 400 m dash. In the 2006 fall season the highest finishing sport at the state level was the cross country team. In 2006, the football team finished 10-0 for only the 2nd time in school history. 4 weeks after the season ended, Sherando lost to the Harrisonburg Blue Streaks 27-23 in the 1st round of regionals.

The Sherando High School varsity football finished as the State Runner-Up in 2007. The final score was 56-10, although star QB Ross Methany was injured early in the game. The school that beat them badly was Amherst County High School "Home of The Lancers"!
