This article is about Shepway in south-eastern Kent, not to be confused with (the Isle of) Sheppey in northern Kent

Shepway is a local government district in Kent, England. It 'subtitles' itself as Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh. It has council offices in Folkestone; and there are town councils in Folkestone, Hythe, New Romney and Lydd, with a parish councils at Sandgate, Stelling Minnis, Dymchurch, Saltwood, Newington, Hawkinge, Swingfield, Elmsted, Brookland, Stanford, Lympne, Ivychurch, Newchurch, Postling, Elham, Burmarsh, Brenzett, Sellindge, Lyminge and St Mary in the Marsh.

The district is divided into wards. Those wards are Elham and Stelling Minnis; North Downs West and East (2 wards); Tolsford*; Folkestone East; Folkestone Cheriton; Folkestone Morehall; Folkestone Park ; Folkestone Harbour; Folkestone Harvey Central; Folkestone Harvey West; Folkestone Sandgate; Lympne and Stanford; Hythe East; Hythe Central; Hythe West; Romney Marsh; Dymchurch and St Mary's Bay; New Romney Town and Coast (2 wards); and Lydd.

  • Tolsford is an area of small villages below the North Downs and west of Folkestone. It is named after Tolsford Hill.

The motorway M20 and High Speed 1 both cross the district: at Cheriton is the western end of the Tunnel.

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 as a merger of the boroughs of Folkestone, Hythe, Lydd and New Romney, along with Elham Rural District and Romney Marsh Rural District. It is named after the historical Lathe of Shepway.
