Shenmen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shenmen (Traditional Chinese: 神門, also called in English "Spirit Gate"[1]) or HT7 is an acupoint, a point of the skin that is stimulated, with various techniques, in the practice of acupuncture. Shenmen or HT7 is located on the heart meridian (HT).

[edit] Therapeutic uses and scientific validation

A common way to prevent placebo effects in the validation of acupuncture is to use animals as subjects. A 2005 study published in Neuroscience Letters showed that the stimulation of Shenmen, but not of control points, lessened the dopaminergic response to morphine and reduced hyperactivity. [2]

This recent research brings further support to the well-known use of acupuncture in addiction problems.
