Shenkottah is a small, sleepy town, bordering Kerala and Tamil Nadu states of India. It was earlier with Travancore Samasthanam before joining with Tamil Nadu after Independence. It is about 5 KM from the famous tourist spot Thirukurtallam, aka Kurtalam falls.
The town mostly depends on the agricultural business, but it has a large locomotive shed for Meter Gauge trains. Before the neighbouring Tenkasi Broad Gauge Junction, this is the busiest junction.
It is the native place of the famous singer of yesteryear K.P. Sundarambal. Also, in memory of Vanjinatha Aiyer, who shot Lord Ash in Maniyachi, there is a statue at a main road junction.
