Shenanigans (horse)

Shenanigans was a grey Thoroughbred 1975 Broodmare of the Year mare. She was the dam of Ruffian, the great filly who was euthanized when she broke a leg in 1975. Her record was 22: 3-1-6, and she ran in the Maryland Futurity. Unfortunately, the broken leg of Ruffian seemed to run in the family. Shenanigans broke two legs when she awoke from intestinal surgery, and was put down May 21, 1977. Reviewer, Ruffian's sire, broke a leg, also, and was put down. Though quite infamous, Shenanigans will always be remembered as the dam of Ruffian.

Her 1969 colt by Nearctic, Icecapade, set a track record at Monmouth Park, running 6 furlongs in 1:08. A stakes race run at that distance is named for him.
