Shelton High School a public high school in Shelton, Connecticut. The School is located in eastern Fairfield County. The school has some of the highest rankings in Fairfield County. The school came in 16th place for one of the best high schools in Fairfield County in the year 2002. It has a student body of approximately 1700 from grades 9 through 12, and its current headmaster is Donald K. Ramia.

Gael Winds, the school's broadsheet quarterly student newspaper, has garnered many awards, with alumni now at Harvard College, Yale University, and Barnard College.[citation needed] Gael Winds is run by a teacher assigned editorial board, picked by the papers backbone and editorial teacher, Mrs. Deborah Stellavato.[citation needed]

Shelton High School has a variety of sports programs, such as the football, baseball, boys' volleyball, swimming, ice hockey, girls and boys indoor and outdoor track and field programs. They are part of the Housatonic Division of the Southern Connecticut Conference. The boys volleyball team has experienced great success lately, winning the SCC Championship in 2004, 2005, and 2006, as well as the Class L State Championship in 2004 and 2005. The productions of the Shelton High School Drama Club, held in the school's Percy Kingsely Auditorium with seats for over 1,000 audience members, are often sold out.[citation needed]
The Shelton Gaels high school football team won the state championship in 1988, 1995, 2000, and 2003. The Gaels have been a mainstay in statewide newspaper polls and rankings for the past ten years, usually being ranked one of the best teams in the state by sports columnists and reporters.
The Shelton Gaels high school men's volleyball team won the state championship back-to-back in 2004 and 2005, running an impressive 46-0 straight record.
[edit] Construction/Renovation
Shelton High School is currently undergoing a $23,000,000 renovation.[1] Fusco Corporation, Fletcher Thompson Architects, and Tomlinson Hawley Patterson are the construction crews currently working on the school. Construction started in the Summer of 2006 and is expected to be completed in August 2008. Some of the renovations include auditorium upgrades, a new science wing, a new HVAC system, electrical system upgrades, and an addition at the east side of the school of about 18,000 square feet, containing new weight room and locker rooms areas.
