Shelley is in the vicinity of various schools and universities. Shelley has one primary school located within its borders. The first is Shelley Primary School which is off Monota Avenue. Shelley also is within the Rossmoyne Senior High School zone. Many affluent residents usually send their children to private schools outside of Shelley.
Shelley is also very close to Curtin University which is 10 minutes by car. One would drive from Leach Highway and exit off at Centenary Avenue and then drive to Manning Road and exit to Lawson Street.

Shelley residents are within reach of many shopping centres. The Shelley Hub shopping centre is the local shopping centre which contains a number of shops including; Shelley Fresh, Shelley Fish 'n' Chips, Thai Thai Restaurant and Shelley Newsagency. There is also the local Riverton Forum which is located across Leach Highway in the suburb of Riverton which is 8 minutes by car. Shelley residents can also use Leach Highway and turn to Manning Road to go to Westfield Carousel in Cannington. The other major shopping centre is Southlands Shopping Centre located in the suburb of Willetton.

Shelley residents have access to many major bus routes. Off Leach highway, there is the 98/99 CircleRoute buses which goes to Fremantle and to Curtin University in the opposition direction. Another bus service which Shelley residents have access to is the 170, which travels from Bull Creek Station to Perth City Busport.
