Shelby Park (Nashville)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shelby Park is a large urban park located approximately three miles (five km) east of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, along the Cumberland River. The park includes playgrounds, a dog park,[1] a baseball field, a 27 hole golf course, and a community center. The park is located between the Lockeland Springs, Shelby Hills and Rolling Acres neighborhoods.

The Nashville Park Commission acquired the initial land for the park in 1909,[2] purchasing 151 acres that had been previously used for an amusement park. Shelby Park officially opened on July 4, 1912.[2] Today the park includes over 361 acres of land.[2]
