Sheffield Interchange
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sheffield Interchange is a bus station in Sheffield, England. As well as containing around 30 bus stops it also has an information desk and shops within the Archway Centre. The Interchange is integrated with the railway station by way of a signposted covered walkway between the two, it is a short walk from the city centre and tram. It is also close to the Old Queen's Head, the oldest domestic building in Sheffield, and one of only three timber-framed buildings.
Formerly called Pond Street bus station, it was opened in 1936. In 1956, covered accommodation was built, replacing the collection of bus stops. From 8 October 1960 it stopped sharing its accommodation with the Sheffield Tramway. In the early 1990s, work began on the reconstruction of the bus station and was renamed Sheffield Interchange.
