Sheena Benton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sheena Benton (born 1981) is a beauty queen who won the title Miss Delaware USA 2005.

Benton represented Delaware in the Miss USA 2005 pageant held in Baltimore, Maryland in April 2005, but failed to make the cut. The pageant was won by Chelsea Cooley of North Carolina. At the time of her pageant win she was living in Wilmington, Delaware but is originally from Milford. The Delaware state win was her first major pageant experience.

Benton caused a stir in March 2005 when it was revealed that she had been convicted for driving under the influence a few years prior to her win. There were serious questions as to whether she should be able to compete in the Miss USA 2005 pageant and of her suitability as a role model for young people. The Miss Universe Organization eventually allowed her to compete.[1][2][3]

During her reign she helped raise thousands of dollars for charities around Delaware such as Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, The Epileptic Foundation of Delaware as well as made several visits to locals schools, children's and veterans hospitals.

Benton is a 2003 graduate of the University of Delaware where she earned Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Sociology. She received her M.ED in Elementary and Secondary School Counseling with a 4.0 GPA in 2007. She crowned her successor, Ashlee Greenwell of Middletown, in November 2005.
