Shecky's Media, Inc.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shecky's Media, Inc. is a multi-platform media company, city guide publisher and website.

[edit] History

Shecky's Media was founded in 1997 by Chris Hoffman, under the original name Hangover Media. Hoffman's goal was to create a New York nightlife guide targeting the late-20's set. The name for the guide, "Shecky's", was drawn from the nickname Hoffman earned as a derivatives trader for Lehman Brothers, where his wisecracking drew comparisons to comedian Shecky Green [1]. The company name was changed to Shecky's Media in 2004.

Based in Manhattan, Shecky's now publishes a variety of city guides for the NYC area, focusing on nightlife, fashion, and beauty. The company also operates a website [2], which functions as the go-to spot for hip new trends, products, bars, fashions, and events in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco. The website includes features, reviews, events, and daily blogs on nightlife, beauty and fashion in each city. According to Google, sheckys.com gets 4,000,000 page views per month. They plan to expand to cover 15 markets by 2008.

In 2006, Shecky's opened a fashion boutique in Manhattan's Lower East Side, named Shecky's Shop [3][4].

[edit] Events

Shecky's also organizes highly-popular fashion and beauty events, Girls' Night Out and Beauty Week, in cities around the United States. Their popular Girls' Night Out [5][6] fashion and beauty event takes place seasonally in cities across the country. The New York event is held in Manhattan's landmark Puck Building. Hundreds of designers and vendors participate in these events each year, representing the best in beauty and fashion in their respective cities.
