Shchigry

Shchigry (Russian: Щигры́) is a town in Kursk Oblast, Russia, located between the Shchigra and Lesnaya Plata Rivers some 60 km northeast of Kursk. Population: 18,900 (2005 est.); 19,582 (2002 Census); 18,000 (1974).

The town of Shchigry is known to have been existing since the 17th century as a village called Troitskoye na Shchigrakh (Troitskoye on the Shchigry). In 1779, it was renamed Shchigry.
