User talk:Shashe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi Fred! Welcome to Wikipedia! I would have sent you the official welcome page but I was a little too slow on the draw. You were asking about articles that need work. For new articles that are needed you could check this link [1]. I keep this link on my user page and call it "Things to do". Theres always a ton of things that need doing there. A place to go for articles that need editing and expansion is here [2] the Wikipedia Votes for Deletion (VfD) page. Thats where articles that may not be up to Wikipedia's standards are considered for deleting, mergeing, redirecting or keeping in the knowledge base. It's a good feeling to take an article that are being considered for deletion and edit it and/or expand it so that its keepable. I have learned a few things about subjects I wouldn't noramally be interested in by checking out the nominations there. Of course these suggestions are merely scratching the surface of what there is within Wikipedia (WP). I encourage you to explore the place, get involved with editing and makeing a positive contribution to the sum of human knowledge. A very noble thing, in my opinion if you do!. Well thats all I can add here at this time, if you have any questions, comments or ideas that you would like to share, feel free to leave me a note on my talk page. I look forward to reading your future contributions. Good Luck! Hamster Sandwich 04:34, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] thanks hamster

I really appreciate you taking care to offer encouragement to inspire me to contribute more to the community as it is. I found a project I can work on (and so can anyone else), which can be found here. It is the wikipedia:maintenance collaboration of the week, where uses unite towards a common goal. This week's collaboration is on fixing pages linked to the disambiguation page unnesessarily

Everyone do your part!!

[edit] Wiki On a Stick

My plan is to create a "wiki on a stick" to take notes in class and reference them to each other. I can then supply any knowledge I have obtained to those who have the time to input it into wikipedia, or add it myself.

However, I do not understand the instructions very well on how to set this up, and would greatly appreciate some help. I am very busy and may or may not get it running without help. I will certainly have it up and runing faster with help! Thanks Shashe 10:56, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

Hello Shashe, I believe that you might be the same Shashe that has posted a query to me over at the meta site. If you are one and the same, I have responded on my talk page there. If this is a case of mistaken identity I apologize. --Robert Harrisontalk contrib 03:56, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
Answered additional question, see my talk page on meta. --Robert Harrisontalk contrib 04:41, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
Hopefully we are almost done (see my meta talk page) --Robert Harrisontalk contrib 17:05, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] rewinding dvds

...when rewinding a dvd or other digital file (bearing in mind that a dvd is actually a collection of sequential files) to a certain point, one is 'cueing the dvd', when one is simply moving in one direction or the other, one is 'shuttling' or 'jogging' -- 'jog' generally means to move in small increments. Pedant also 'scrub' and scrubbing: when you drag a slider to make the video or audio move, while playing at the speed the slider (or knob or whatever) is moving. Pedant

It is not problem at all to help you or anybody else out. If not anything else, I'll at least point out the direction one should take while troubleshooting. I am glad that you are using MediaWiki for notetaking since it does increase the exposure of the software to folks that might otherwise never think of exploring it.

As for suggesting stuff for you to do, well that's easy... go to the Community Portal and do your heart's desire. Though I think that joining a WikiProject of your choice might be more fun.

[edit] Image Tagging Image:DecksNOtape.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:DecksNOtape.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 15:07, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
