Armchair Gurus / Electric Chair
"She" is actually an unlisted track on Electric Chair - have amended the article to reflect this. As to the release dates, dependant upon the site that you look at it is either 1997 or 1998 (hardly definitive). Will see if I can see anything on the Mushroom Restival Records website (but I doubt it). Dan arndt (talk) 09:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- The double-cd was also re-released in 2002 under the Shock Record label. Dan arndt (talk) 09:19, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Kent Music Report
Tracked down a copy and have put the correct Australian chart listings in for all the HG singles & albums Dan arndt (talk) 23:51, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
HG Video Collections
Have added wikitable for the various video collections - have deleted Cutting Edge - Volume 1 from the HG template & the list as it was a collection of segments from MTV covering a variety of artists, containing some snippets of various HG music videos and a six minute interview (could be included in a list of HG contributions) but not in its own right. Dan arndt (talk) 02:58, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Dave Faulkner
See you've done some updates to this article - need to find out more about his early years - brothers/sisters, earlier schooling etc. Dan arndt (talk) 02:58, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
HG B-Sides
I'm glad you started this one - will try and assist in getting it finalised so we can put in the HG Discog. May have to look at nominating the Discog when we've finished. Dan arndt (talk) 00:29, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Brad Shepherd
The Divine Rites website has a fairly good overview of Brad Shepherd's career, as part of an article on The Monarchs. Thought this might assist in any article on Shepherd. There are also some interesting insights into how he came to join HG. Dan arndt (talk) 03:04, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- Glad to help out & nice to see another HG related article created (good work). Dan arndt (talk) 03:27, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Hoodoo Gurus
Apart from the fact that nobody seems willing to review the article (and establish its 'GA' status) probably the main things missing are more images of the band & its members and maybe some audio samples (which I'm not certain how to create). Dan arndt (talk) 04:18, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Contacting hoodoogurus.net for images is a great idea... Dan arndt (talk) 07:11, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Australian Crawl
Over here in the West - we've just had a long weekend so I've been offline & in the surf. So the OzCrawl is our next venture sounds like a mission. I have made a copy of the Kent Music Report's listings so I'll update the various articles - and I'll have a crack at putting together a discog page for them. Haven't had a chance to go through your sandbox version of the article as have been busy at work - will let you know as soon as... Dan arndt (talk) 00:42, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Will get started on the discog page - as I have a lot of the info ready to use (was anticipating updating it anyway).
In answer to your questions/queries:
- Semantics (US release) whilst can list it in the discography as a seperate release - the details should just be included within the article, Semantics - not certain about the suggestion it was relased in the US instead of Phalanx will need to some research.
- Had never heard of the Reckless 1979 - 1995 live recordings by James Reyne & by OzCrawl before - will need to check it out.
- "Santa Claus is Back in Town" I believe was a promotional single and should be listed in the discography (will do).
- "Indisposed" wasn't as far as I am aware released as a single - it was only the B-side to "Downhearted" for the UK release - will need to update the article.
As you have noted there is a lot of work that needs to be done on all the relevant sub pages (albums & singles with own articles) but it will probably keep us both busy for awhile. I think you can pick the next project. Dan arndt (talk) 08:07, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
"Downhearted"
- You are sooo right - the first version was the Australian release by EMI which has "Way I've Been" as the B-side (which was the same as the NZ release). The intial US/Canda release by Harvest records had "Indisposed" as the B-Side, whilst the UK release had "Letter From Zimbawe" as its B-Side. There was a re-release in the US by EMI which then had "Creating Monsters" as the B-Side. I am trying to find the dates of each of the releases - when I do I will add them to the article and hopefully provide a little consistency. Dan arndt (talk) 00:59, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Sean Higgins.... well I don't know where I came up with that fact - Higgins performed with Bill McDonough in the Flatheads (1978-1980) and was a co-writer of "Downhearted" - he also performed on Guy McDonough's solo album, My Place (he played synthesisers) but I can't find anything to justify the statement he played with OZ Crawl at anytime... Hoodoo Gurus GA Review
Check out the comments page - looks like the reviewer isn't impressed with the lead section - will try and tweak it a bit. Dan arndt (talk) 23:26, 9 March 2008 (UTC) Yeah have been distracted - so you go for it... Dan arndt (talk) 00:56, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- Have been busy at work so I haven't been able to devote much time to this article or the Oz Crawl article but will get stuck back into it soon. Dan arndt (talk) 08:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Managed to track down some references to the video clip for "My Girl" which I've added to the article - there was some debate as to where the clip was recorded but the most reliable identify it as the former greyhound track at Harold Park in 1983 - am trying to find out which hotel the rest of the clip was filmed at but no success so far. Dan arndt (talk) 00:31, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Have started work on Part 3 - thought it was unfair for you to shoulder the entire load (you're welcome to help though) Dan arndt (talk) 04:46, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Have fixed all the dead links except for Guruvosity might want to check this as an alternative site? Am heading off for St Patrick's day drinks will catch up tomorrow.Dan arndt (talk) 08:01, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

ALRIGHT! We finally did it - a vindication of all the hard work we put into the article - there is no way I could ever have had the preserverance to get it up to GA status without you pushing it forward. Dan arndt (talk) 06:42, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Australian Crawl
Well you're right no time to bask in the glory - the Oz Crawl article still has a long way to go but getting one article there now makes a second seem achieveable. Dan arndt (talk) 06:45, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Chart Postions
I've gone back and checked my notes and the Kent Music Report clearly indicates that Between A Rock And A Hard Place only reached #11 and stayed in the charts for 21 weeks. I can only assume that the quote attributed to MacFarlane is wrong - although it depends on whether if you include Phalanx which reached #4 on the Australian album charts. So I have indicated that four of their albums and the EP all reached top 5 positions on the charts. Although using that arguement the Crawl File also reached #2 on the album charts - so you could state five of their albums (including compilations reached the top 5). Dan arndt (talk) 00:01, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Interesting enough an EP is included on the singles charts not the album charts as such Semantics didn't actually reach the #1 postion but the single "Reckless" did - so technically it is registered as a #1 hit. May have to look at combining the two into a single article.
- The Crawl File was released in 1994 (I actually have a copy - think it was my brother's - my older brother) although according to the Kent Music report it reached #2 on the album charts before Between A Rock And A Hard Place so I'll do some research and see what I can come up with.
- Have checked and found that it was released in 1984 which makes a lot more sense. The copy I have is a CD so my guess is that it was originally a vinyl release in 1984 which was followed by a re-released in a CD format (possibly in 1994). Will keep checking...
- Haven't read the liner notes for Phalanx but am pretty certain my brother has a copy (the vinyl release) which I can lay my hands on.
- Similarly I haven't had a look at The Final Wave - unfortunately my brother doesn't have a copy of that one but he did go to the Perth concert (if I remember I think he bought me a tour t-shirt).
- Will check out the fansite and see what info it has... Dan arndt (talk) 04:47, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Hoodoo Gurus
None of those seem like reliable sources. Power-pop would be fine, I think. In the US they are definitely seen as one of the stalwart college rock bands of the 1980s. Back before alternative rock was clearly defined bands were sometimes called New Wave even if they weren't part of the movement (this happened to R.E.M. on occasion, who were in effect the antithesis of New Wave). New Wave would be fine if a consensus of credible sources agreed to it, but from what I've seen, just labeling them alternative rock seems like it would suffice. WesleyDodds (talk) 01:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
The Boys Light Up
I have double checked and can not find any verifiable evidence that this album ever reached #1 on the Australian album charts (check List of number-one albums in Australia during the 1980s) according to the Kent Music Report the album only reached #4 on the album charts though it did stay in the charts for an amazing 101 weeks. Unless someone can find evidence otherwise all references to the number of #1 ablums will need to be changed. As previously commented both Phalanx and Crawl File whilst compilation albums reached #4 and #2 respectively. Between a Rock and a Hard Place and The Final Wave reaching #11 and #16 respectively. Lost & Found
Have added new article - yet to reference. Dan arndt (talk) 05:48, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Most of the references that I can find state $40,000 - I find it hard to believe that an Australian band would spend almost $1/2M on an album in 1985. John Watson (ex-Kevin Borich Express) came in as a permanent replacement for Bill McDonough in 1983. Harry Brus (ex-Kevin Borich Express) replaced long-standing bass player Paul Williams in May 1985 and Mark Greig (ex-Runners) replaced Guy McDonough. I am fairly certain that Simon Binks left the band in late 1984 but will try and chase down a reference for when and why. Dan arndt (talk) 00:25, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Semantics
Have just been doing some work on the article - including it in the discography is a interesting quandry - it was released before the Crawl File in Australia but wasn't released as an album in the US until the next year - am not certain of a month so am unable to place it. Dan arndt (talk) 04:32, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think you'll find the covers were identical - it is just poor reproduction quality that makes some look darker than others. I'm not certain but I think that my brother might even have a copy somewhere - will have to check.Dan arndt (talk) 04:38, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- An EP is effectively an extended single - therefore according to the music charts it is listed as a single which is why "Reckless" is listed as reaching #1 on the singles charts not Semantics (although "Reckless (Don't You Be So...)" was released as a promotional single by Geffen Records in the UK in 1983) however in saying that Semantics is the recognised name for the EP and hence when you do a search in respect to AC's discography it will come up not "Reckless" - confused yet? The title of the song is offically "Reckless" however in order to differentiate it from other songs with the same name it is commonly known as "Reckless (Don't be so...)" - I'm guessing that the APRA listing was given as AKA "She Don't Like" as James Reyne when he submitted it was also trying to differentiate the song from others. My personal view is that "Reckless" should be directly linked back to Semantics in all references and a clearly explanation provided in the Semantics article. If you look you will find that other songs off the Semantics Ep, specifically "White Limbo" recieved airplay but never were released separately (effectively they were just B-sides to "Reckless"). Dan arndt (talk) 00:26, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Simon Binks
Not certain as to whether any of the websites you cite actually confirm his birthdate - have sent you an email re: simon. Dan arndt (talk) 00:32, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- Apart from the fact that Simon provides a wealth of information on this article - I'm not certain where to even start editing this - there is so much that needs to be addressed in terms of the basics of NPOV, Verifiability, and No original research. It would be fine if Simon could assist in providing some way of verifying/referencing all his statements but I don't know if he could. It would be worthwhile following up his comments about Simon Hussey not actually being a member of the band and also his comments on Freestyle Records. Dan arndt (talk) 07:49, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Guy McDonough
Maybe worthwile duing a search of obituaries in The Age newspaper around that time - will check next time I'm at the State Refrence Library. The only other reference I can find is at Last FM, which suffers the same fate as Wikipedia in that it doesn't state its references. I'm sure that there is probably a bit of truth in the statement relating to his death but I agree it needs some more research to either confirm or deny. Interesting enough I also found a reference to rumours that his death was as a result of a heroin overdose (unlikely given that his death wasn't a particularly sudden death [1]) or that it was AIDS related - check Online Memorials).
Viral pneumonia seems to be the accepted cause of death however as to why he was in a run-down condition and caught pneumonia is till up for conjecture (check this blog as another example). So that's probably the line to run with until it can be verified otherwise. Dan arndt (talk) 09:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Have modified the respective items - in the meantime I have created an item for Reckless: 1979-1995 will just need to add a bit more substance to it. Dan arndt (talk) 04:07, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Freestyle Records
Finally found a reference that confirms Between a Rock and a Hard Place was initially released on vinyl by Freestyle Records, the label formed by the members of Australian Crawl. Dan arndt (talk) 01:17, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Good Article Nomination
Decided to bit the bullet and lodge the nomination now (otherwise we could keep on going forever) - at least we can then find what we alterations/changes we need to make. Can you do a quick check on all the web links? Dan arndt (talk) 04:49, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Have added some more references to post 1986/after the split section - need to reference all the statements that various songs were hits. Am trying to find a good reference to the fact that in 1997 Boys Light Up was named in (Australian) Rolling Stone’s Top 100 albums of all time. Also the reference that SB was named by Rolling Stone (Australia) as one of the top 10 guitarists. In respect to James Reyne' son being an actor is only really relevant to the article on James Reyne (as his son never made any contributions to AC). Will keeping on working on the article and hope that someone decides to review it shortly. Dan arndt (talk) 05:29, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- Unfortunately the press releases on JR are nowhere near reliable - a couple of them cite "Way Out West" as reaching number 1 however it is clear from checking the charts it only ever reached #2 (was still the most succesful solo release by JR) - as well as citing that Boys Light Up was number 1 whereas it only reached #4.
-
- In respect to the Top 100 I will try and see if I can track down a copy the 1997 issue of Rolling Stone at the library which may shed some light on this list.
Hoodoo Gurus discography
Did you see that HG Discography has been picked up by the WikiProject Discographies - so I had a look at the various discographies that have obtained GL status and I would have to say with a little tweaking that the article ain't far off getting there - you might want to have a look yourself. Dan arndt (talk) 07:02, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Will try and track down actual release dates on each of the later compilation/live albums - fairly certain where I can find them.
- In relation to the song, "Night Must Fall", I'm guessing from the comments that it was more of a radio release only rather than an actual single. It may have appeared as the B-side to "Down on Me" in Brazil but would need to find a reference to that.Dan arndt (talk) 09:17, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Me & Wikitables :( not a good match.Dan arndt (talk) 09:17, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Have fixed the various release dates for Ampology as well as all the various record companies. It appears the the 2003 re-release charted on the NZ album charts peaking at #39. Will work on the other albums as time permits. Dan arndt (talk) 01:16, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Congrats
That's number two GA status articles.... I'm impressed. Will keep working on the Hoodoo Gurus discography and see whether we can get that to GL status. Dan arndt (talk) 00:41, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Have had a look at other 'GL' discographies and what we have is probably about right - brief description of significant releases - probably needs to include a few more references - not too bad for a cut and paste exercise. We need to keep researching the various release dates but the article is getting cloe to nomination status. Dan arndt (talk) 01:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, you maybe right about the lead section being too long... The only other aspect that we can consider including a list/table of all Hoodoo Guru tacks included in various compilation albums. I don't think it is worth including a list of all their videos until we have all the details (particulary who directed them) - this could possibly be found on Tunnel Vision but I haven't been able to track down a copy. Dan arndt (talk) 01:39, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Try looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Discographies which includes a list of all 'GL' status discographies. Dan arndt (talk) 01:50, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- At first I didn't understand what you meant but you're right there is no 'GL' status so we go striaght to 'FL' status!Dan arndt (talk) 04:10, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Have deleted the comments about "That's My Team" as probably need to reduce the size of the lead & therefore the inconsistencies about the band's reformation. Still working on confirmation of actual release dates. Will also look at all their contributions. Dan arndt (talk) 05:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not invested in, nor am I concerned with, any issues regarding CoI or POV on this article. I did, however, want to tell you to please be careful in editing the talk page to not remove WP Project assessments of articles, which occurred on May 4 when you left a talk comment. Assessments essentially are based only on what is contained in the article and not with any issues otherwise. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 23:43, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Daddy Cool
I wish I'd seen your message earlier today as I was just at the Battye Library going through the Kent Music Report and I could have doubled checked against another reference book I found which reproduced the listings on a week by week basis. In answer to your query I would stick to 10 weeks as that appears to be the most consistent view (will try and get the time to research it later), I would not be reliant on the band's bio. Interesting enough the ARIA blurb states that the single charted for 17 weeks whereas the Kent report states it spent 37 weeks in the charts... Have entered all the other songs/albums chart positions in the article - will continue to edit as I have the time. Dan arndt (talk) 04:58, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- I know what you mean unfortunately not all references are consistent and you have to go with what is verifiable - i.e reference to "Crocodile Rock", though if you could find a quote from Elton John it would be worth including. Am currently working on "Eagle Rock" to try and knock it into shape. Dan arndt (talk)
- Bugger - I remember seeing an interview somewhere on the net, which gives some credence to the "Crocodile Rock" comment - now I'll just have to remember where...Dan arndt (talk) 02:40, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- From what I can find there isn't any reference from Elton John regarding the impact of Daddy Cool's music - it all seems to based on Ross Wilson's comments - so maybe thats how it should be included - something along the lines of a quote from Wilson regarding his perception of the impact of their music. Dan arndt (talk) 00:32, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Hoodoo Gurus discography
Have recieved some feedback on potential improvements but haven't had time to do anything as of yet. Dan arndt (talk) 02:40, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Do you think that the lead section needs more trimming? Also we need to amend the tables to include certification as a separate column. Am trying to get a hold of Tunnel Vision to see whether it contains details of all the video clips - if it does will then try and convert them into a table for inclusion. Dan arndt (talk) 00:29, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
