[edit] Introduction
Hi! My name is Gary Cox, and I'm a junior at Michigan State University, although when I began contributing I was a sophomore in high school (it took awhile before I created an account, in 2004...). I've been a Wikipedia user for several years now, and also do a fair amount of editing. I also try to add some images once in a while.
I consider myself to be a very diverse person, and so the articles that I contribute to definately reflect that. I'm also a huge NPOV stickler... :) I'm also what some people call a "grammar nazi" - if I see a mechanical error in an article, I will fix it regardless of the circumstances. The result of this is that I am technically listed as "contributing" to stuff that I'm definately not a part of, and would not like to be associated with (e.g. I think I fixed a comma in an article about erotic spankings once... or something like that. The author was probably too busy thinking about things other than commas!)
I'm a student at Michigan State University, and I'm majoring in Civil Engineering. As such, you will most likely find me roaming around articles related to transportation engineering (e.g. road signs, highways, and "stuff") and also Iaido (Tamiya-ryu), as well as TV, both American and anime. My favorite TV show is Law & Order.
Currently, I have myself listed in the boxes as "interested in Shinto". In fact I am a member of the Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America in Seattle. I'm also interested in a strongly related religion, Tenrikyo and Konkokyo.
[edit] Wikipedia things I am working on right now
Currently one of the main things I am working on (as you can see from my contribs page) is getting all of the video game's picture formats put into the infoboxes, along with any other missing information like ratings, release date, and input. The "picture format" field was just recently added, so there is quite a backlog to go through...
[edit] My first article (this is FUNNY & kind of amazing) & The Progress of Wikipedia
Way back in August of 2003, when Wikipedia was still a baby really, I started my first article, it was/is on a Zelda game for Game Boy Color, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. I encourage you check out what it looks like now for comparison's sake (just click that link). Now, if you check out the history of that article, the very first version of it, which I made as an IP because I didn't have an account yet, well, you'll probably laugh - which is okay! I've copied it below so you don't have to dig it up. Anyway, when I looked at it today, I did find it hilarious... that was my attempt at making something "serious-sounding"... the formatting, the words, it speaks for itself I guess. It shows you how far Wikipedia has come! (And also how far I have come, too, I guess... :) ).
Here's a copy of the original version of that article... no, there was no formatting. This is IT. Also, rather interesting to note: The first three sentences have remained perfectly in tact except for that precious "audiovisual game ("video game", "electronic game")." It also looks to be the only thing left, too :)
Also known as "OoS". PUBLISHER: Nintendo DEVELOPER: Nintendo & Capcom RELEASE DATE: May 2001 (United States) GAME CONSOLE: Nintendo Game Boy Color & Game Boy Advance GENRE: Adventure FORMAT: Cartridge
INTRODUCTION The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons is an audiovisual game ("video game", "electronic game") published by Nintendo and developed by Nintendo in conjunction with Capcom. Although the game was originally released for use on the Nintendo Game Boy Color, it exhibits special features when used on a Nintendo Game Boy Advance. (Among these include additional rings and items) This game is the sister-product of The Legned Of Zelda: Oracle Of Ages, which was released at the same time. These two games had the ability to link with one another either through passwords or via cable. A person could complete one game, and then transfer his or her progress to the other game using one of these methods.
TIMELINE PLACEMENT Although the chronological order of all Legend of Zelda games is controversial and not official, it is generally accepted that The Legend of Zelda: Oracle Of Seasons occured after The Legned of Zelda: A Link to the Past and before The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
STORYLINE (spoiler-free) The protagonist of the Legend Of Zelda series (with the notable execption of The Legned of Zelda: Zelda's Advenutre), Link, is transported from his home world, Hyrule, to another world, Holodrum. Although the exact method of which this happened is uncertain, it is believed that the godesses (Nayru, Din, and Farore), sent Link to Holodrum. When Link arrives here, he meets a women named Din (unrealted to the goddess Din), who exhibits exceptional prowess in dancing. Link learns that Din is the Oracle of Seaons (that is, she keeps the the seasons of Holodrum in order). She is soon kidnapped by General Onox, who wished to cause choas in Holodrum by adversly altering the seasons. It is Link's job to save Din and restore orderliness to Holodrum.
GAME AVAILABILITY Game is no longer in production - but is widely available for purchase as a pre-used game.
