This is a list of characters appearing in the video game Gears of War. All of the game's characters were created and designed by Cliff Bleszinski of Epic Games.

[edit] Development and casting
Gears of War focuses primarily on Marcus Fenix, the main character, and Delta Squad's (consisting of Marcus, Dominic, Augustus "Cole Train" Cole, and Damon Baird) encounters with the Locust Horde. Players take control of Marcus Fenix, freshly rescued by Dominic Santiago from the Jacinto Maximum Security Penitentiary. When in co-op two player, the second player assumes control of Santiago. All four of the squad members are available for play during multiplayer games, along with Victor Hoffman.
Some of the characters received voice-overs from popular culture icons. Marcus Fenix is voiced by John DiMaggio, best known as the voice of Bender in Futurama, and Augustus "Cole Train" Cole is voiced by Lester "The Mighty Rasta" Speight, who plays "Terrible" Terry Tate, the "Pain Train", in the Office Linebacker commercials made for Reebok.

[edit] Marcus Fenix
Marcus Fenix (voiced by John DiMaggio) is the protagonist of Gears of War. Prior to the game's events, Fenix leads a famed career as a military officer. He jeopardizes his military career by abandoning his post, and making a vain attempt to rescue his father. Fenix subsequently receives an unjust trial, and is ordered to serve a lengthy prison sentence. As Gears of War begins, Fenix's longtime compatriot, Dominic Santiago liberates Fenix as the prison is sieged by the Locust Horde. Fenix is reisnated into the military, and fights alongisde with Santiago in "Delta Squad". He becomes the squad's commanding officer after Lt. Minh Young Kim is perishes near the end of Act One. Colonel Hoffman entrusts Fenix to led his men to map and later destroy the Locust tunnel network.
[edit] Dominic Santiago
Dominic "Dom" Santiago (voiced by Carlos Ferro) is Fenix's loyal friend and compatriot. He liberates and extracts Fenix from a dilapidated prison in the beginning of Gears of War. Santiago fights alongside with Fenix as a member of Delta Squad, and often pairs with him when the group divides in order cover additional ground. Santiago assists Fenix throughout the mission, and even saves his life near the end of the game.
[edit] Augustus Cole
Augustus "Gus" Cole (voiced by Lester Speight) is soldier who fights alongside with Fenix and Delta Squadron. Formerly a "thrashball" superstar, Cole traded in his number eighty-three jersey to fight the Locust Horde. He first encounters the Fenix during the game's opening level, where impresses Delta Squadron by single-handedly fending off several Locust Drones. Cole, and his comrade Damon Baird are the surviving members of "Alpha Squad", and join Delta Squad in order to complete their mission. He is especially noted for enthusiastic behavior and crass outspokenness. His catch phrases were mixed into a song, which plays during the game's credits.

Damon Baird (voiced by Fred Tatasciore) is another soldier who assists Fenix on his mission to deploy the Resonator. He is one of the surviving members of Alpha Squad, and frequently pairs with Cole. Baird resents Colonel Hoffman's decision to appoint Fenix as Delta Squad's commanding officer, and frequently challenges Fenix's plans. He possesses a poignant and often cynical personality, which is illustrated in his dialogues with Fenix. However, Baird proves his value to squad with his unmatched knowledge of machinery and technology.

[edit] Carmine
Carmine (voiced by Michael Gough) is soldier that fights alongside with Fenix in Delta Squad. As the youngest members of the group, he possesses a bright and gung-ho attitude. Carmine is first introduced aboard a King Raven near the beginning of the game, and becomes eager to serve with him. However, Carmine is shortly killed by a Locust sniper, after leaving his cover to complain about his malfunctioning firearm.
[edit] Minh Young Kim
Minh Young Kim (voiced by Robin Atkin Downes) is Delta Squad's first commanding officer. He commands Fenix and the rest of the group while they search to recover the "Resonator". While Kim successfully accomplishes this task, he is executed by General RAAM during an intense fire-fight with the Locust.
[edit] General RAAM
General RAAM is a recurring antagonist and the final boss in Gears of War. A Mysterious and often quiet character, RAAM first appears in Act One, where he brutally murders Lieutenant Kim after Ambushing the remnants of Alpha and Delta Squad. He makes an additional cinematic appearance after Act Three, where he executes a C.O.G. soldier after overhearing a radio transmission regarding Delta Squad's next move. RAAM makes his final appearance as a boss in the game's last chapter.
