[edit] Shania's Languages
Does anybody know if Shania is bilingual? If she is, that would be interesting information to add to the article.
She grew up in Canada, which is a bilingual country, and Eastern Canada has a large Francophone population. She has lived in Switzerland for several years, where they speak French. It would not surprise me if she spoke it very well.
- Shania is fluent in French, and I think Mutt is too. I remember reading once that Shania was asked a question in English by a French fan, and she replied to her in French. And, I believe Eja - her son - has been raised to speak both French and English. [b]wattylfc[/b] 15:14, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Age at death of parents
I've always thought she was 21, but these links confirm it:
http://www.answers.com/topic/shania-twain http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/twain_shania/bio.jhtml Wattylfc 12:56, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, but if you do the math from her birthdate which is in August 1965 and the parents death in November of 1987, you arrive at an age of 22. I think the dates are correct which would mean that the 2 websites which you have linked to are incorrect. Renrenren 14:24, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Her birthdate and the date of her parents death are both correct, meaning she was 22 at the time. JP4Tide85 15:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Oops! Sorry... JP4Tide85 15:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I suppose you're right, I just don't see why pretty much every single source says she was 21... Wattylfc 12:56, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think it might have something to do with 21 being a milestone birthday. The tragedy forced her to become an adult and to take the place of her parents. Many of these documentary's and shows on TV always take some share of liberty with the actual facts. The Shania Movie on CBC is a case in point. Renrenren 13:36, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Hmm yeh that makes some sense. Wattylfc 19:35, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] New main picture
Anyone else think a more recent picture would be better for the main one - the Come on Over shots are nearly 10 years old now...? Wattylfc 21:24, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. I'll upload one from the Greatest Hits era. --Thankyoubaby 21:29, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- That picture looks great :) Wattylfc 16:55, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Grammys
I'm not convinced that the big table of Grammy nominations is really adding anything - maybe just a list of the 5 she's won....? Wattylfc 19:28, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Actually being nominated for 18 Grammy Awards is quite an accomplishment. Alot of artist's pages have these charts, or list all wins and nominations. See Gwen Stefani, Justin Timberlake or Kanye West. --Thankyoubaby 19:46, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yeh I understand that, but it's just that the table is really long and the only one about awards, neglecting the hundreds of other ones, and she has won/been nominated for some other pretty prestigious awards too. Wattylfc 16:46, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- There is a whole page of just her awards see Shania Twain awards, but just as a sample the Grammys are listed on the main article, just like all her singles aren't listed, just the number ones. --Thankyoubaby 16:08, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Morals
Why has this section been deleted? Shania stands up for what she believes and it's crucial to make note of this fact. Wattylfc 17:28, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- I agree it shouldn't have been removed. Thankyoubaby 00:10, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- I'm guessing she stands up for her morals not her morales. :) Alvie3 01:27, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sixth or seventh in sales?
The wiki article on best selling albums says she is seventh, but this article sixth? Should I edit this to reflect what the article says or is it listed as sixth for a reason? --Karafias 07:32, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- You're right, Come on Over used to be the sixth best selling but has recently dropped to seventh, this page has not been updated yet. Thankyoubaby 15:28, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] NPOV
Article needs to be cleared of its many weasel words. Phrases involving words as "memorable" or "unfortunately" should be reshaped a bit. Tomsintown 22:58, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Need albums sales cite
I don't know if this question fits in this Talk:-section, but anyway I want to know why the User (128.119.234.78) removed the date/link to the source where the information about album sales are from [1].
In my opinion it is important to mention a reliable source with such kind of information as sales figures, and furthermore it is important to know during which time the information was recorded (point in time) because "selling" is a continuous process.
In addition I would like to know a reputable source for all the worldwide sales figures (for US sales it's billboard.com or riaa.com).
I would be grateful for an answer.

- Good point, I've restored the cite. Wasted Time R 04:29, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Gay Icon Project
In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 22:19, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I am not myself family, but I sing karaoke in a gay bar hereabouts; I'll point the category list out to the regulars, for comment. FWIW, I wouldn't have put Shania in that category, myself.

[edit] Wooden Leg
Wooden leg? I don't get it. Does she have a wooden leg, as mentioned in passing in the article (though no detail is given regarding it)? It definitely doesn't seem so. Soumyasch 17:06, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
- Some anon user (62.56.50.167) put such info regarding this. The change has been reverted back now, as it was not true. --Soumyasch 17:12, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
This is just a widespread rumor and according to published reports, including a CMT special on myths in the industry, it is false.
[edit] New Chart
I put in a new singles chart, I think it's better than the last one, but if anyone doesn't think so we can put the old one back.
[edit] You Lay a Whole Lot of Love on Me
On the chart on this page, someone keeps adding that "You Lay a Whole Lot of Love on Me" peaked at #57 on the Billboard Country charts... but if you check their website it didn't peak at all.... --Thankyoubaby 06:26, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- The free edition is fickle, and information you can't get hold of there shouldn't be dismissed simply because of that. - Chsf 16:24, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I subscribed to Billboard.biz for a month and it never charted... --03:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Native North American?
It says here that: "I don't know how much Indian blood I actually have in me, but as the adopted daughter of my father Jerry, I became...". Does this mean that she does infact have some Native American blood in her? SilentRage 02:40, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
20 July: Shania might not know what blood line her biological father, Clarence Edwards, had, is my thought. Wattylfc 19:30, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
She was adopted by a full-blood Ojibwa and by Canadian Law, sadly, that makes her Native American. She has no traceable genetic relation to true Native Americans. Just search on Google and you will find out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DocBlanchard (talk • contribs)
[edit] Origin of Shania Twain
Can someone give me a definition or point me in the right direction about the origin section that is present in the infobox? I know that Shania Twain was born in Windsor, and then grew up in Timmins. She always refers to Timmins as her hometown. In fact, I've never even heard her talk about Windsor in any interviews. I think we need to establish what is considered Shania's origin, and have it noted here in the talk page so that the article page can best reflect what the community thinks it should be. --Renrenren 01:10, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Can someone source this?
This change was done yesterday. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Shania_Twain&diff=123528283&oldid=123405620 Can someone source this. It was posted anonymously by IP 24.150.238.148. --Renrenren 01:16, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
I think the origin of the name Shania is mistaken, as described in the current article. The Biography Channel has a one hour show about Shania Twain. In it Shania Twain herself says that she worked with a co-performer at Deerhurst Lodge in Huntsville Ontario who had the name Shania. The co-worker told her it was Ojibway origin. When the record label was pressuring for a name change she chose Shania, from her friend at Deerhurst Lodge. 74.105.161.112 18:40, 19 April 2007 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.105.161.112 (talk • contribs)
[edit] Religion
What are her religious beliefs?
- I was under the impression she's never really had any - I don't think she's a Sikh like Mutt Lange, and I remember reading once that she said she wasn't particularly religious. Wattylfc 14:20, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Album
"Her third album Come on Over is the biggest-selling album of all time by a female musician...". I don't think this is true. I am sure that the biggest-selling album by a female artist was Alanis Morissette's Jagged little pill which is the this most sold album ever only beaten by Michael Jackson's Thriller and an album by AC/DC. --Euro Mok (talk) 01:27, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Album sales and awards
Stacy twain keeps changing Shania's total album sales from 65 million to 75 million and her BMI Songwriter awards from 27 to 39. Please note that this information is sourced. Regarding her album sales, Shania's official website states: "Her total album sales exceed 65 million copies worldwide." Likewise, another citation from her website lists her BMI awards. I count 27, not 39. I have reverted back to the wording that is supported by citations. It is incumbent on someone who wants to change this to find other reliable sources that say different. However, I can assure you I have looked. I have found sites that say 75 million and one that totals 85 million, but they are fan sites and not reliable. The problem is that there is no reliable source for international sales. So, unless and until we find a reliable source that says otherwise, I think we should stick with what is stated on her website. Sunray 17:52, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Recently "some editors" have been adjusting the total album sales based on adding the numbers given in the article. Please note that we have a reliable source for her total sales: her website lists it at 65 million. Likewise, her website lists 34 M for total sales of Come on Over. We really do have to stick with these numbers, because estimates of international sales are unreliable. Note that several of the other numbers given in the article have "citation needed tags" on them. Sunray (talk) 23:25, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
-
- This might help: U.S. sales are recorded by the RIAA so I have added citations for that and removed all figures for which there are no verifiable sources. The numbers still do not add up exactly to the total album sales cited on her website (which is higher), but as stated above, international sales are really hard to pin down. At least all the numbers are now sourced. I hope that this will end the need to continue reverting and we can discuss further changes to the numbers here. Sunray (talk) 09:08, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Forthcoming Album
http://www2.countryondemand.com/news/2008/01/twain-still-soudscan-1-working-on-album.shtml is the link to a news article saying the album news is false. Perhaps someone could add it as a reference as I do not know how to do that. --Renrenren (talk) 15:16, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, that is a better link that the one that we had. I've added it. Sunray (talk) 16:51, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Revlon, etc.
These business relationships with cosmetics firms should be moved out of the Personal Life section. They are business related although not music related. Perhaps a new section for them would be more appropriate. Grandma Roses (talk) 10:43, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Spelling of birth name?
Is it "Eileen" or "Eilleen"? Someone just changed the article to say "Eileen" (the more common spelling, with one L). However, the IMDb article about Shania gives her birth name as "Eilleen" (with two L's). Do we have any reliable sources for the correct spelling? Richwales (talk) 19:02, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
FWIW, a Google search on "Eilleen Regina Edwards" (with two L's) gives about 21,600 hits. A search on "Eileen Regina Edwards" (with one L) gives about 2,800 hits. This is of course not citable as a source for our purposes, but such a large number of hits on what is definitely not the conventional spelling of the name leads me to suspect that "Eilleen" (with two L's) is probably not just a random typo. Richwales (talk) 21:02, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sant Mat
An edit was done tonight saying that ST follow Sant Mat. I've read in the past that Mutt Lange is a follower of Sant Mat, but I have yet to see a good source that Shania does. Unless someone brings forth a source, I'll leave it for now, but I'll probably delete it at some point.--Renrenren (talk) 03:51, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
