Talk:Shah Waliullah

The article is fundamentally flawed. Shah Waliullah did not start the Deobandi movement, although they revere him greatly and claim that they continue his scholarly heritage. This claim is duplicated by both the Barelvis and the Ahl-e-Hadeeth. Also, the article equates Barelvis to Sufis and states that Deobandis are not Sufis - both the Deobandis and Barelvis are professed Sufis. Also, Shah Waliullah did not "switch from Sufism to Deobandism" - he was always a Sufi throughout his life, and he never became a Deobandi, because Deobandis did not exist at the time, and besides that, you can't switch from Sufism to Deobandism because Deobandis are Sufis! And he wasn't a Barelvis because they didn't exist either, but all Indian Muslims respect him as a great reviver. This article is cringe-worthily inaccurate... Tanzeel 16:40, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Inaccurate Article

I agree with Tanzeel. There are no citations, no scholarly references and no footnotes in this entry. The article is all point of view that reflects an ideological position and not a sober depiction of the complexity of the political context associated with the decline of the Moghul empire and the consequent reaction on the part of the traditional Ulema.

This is a flawed inaccurate article and needs to be supported by more rigorous sources if it to be taken seriously i.e. an encylopedic entry as opposed to a blind hagiography.--Dharman Dharmaratnam 15:08, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
