Shawn Thomas is a contemporary Christian singer/songwriter whose ministry includes an outreach to the GLBT community. Recognized for his efforts by organizations such as "OutVoice"[1], "Stonewall Society"[2], "OutMusic"[3] and "Pride Christian Music", he released his first Christian music CD/album in 2003 after abandoning an attempt in secular music with three unsuccessful CDs in the 1990's. As of 2007, he has released a total of five CD/albums of mostly original Christian music ranging in style from pop/dance, ballads, country, rock, and worship/praise:
-- (2003) "Everything I Am" -- (2004) "Born" -- (2005) "Changed" -- (2006) "Revisited" (a compilation CD) -- (2006/2007) "Faith Unashamed" (re-released as a special edition CD) Thomas is a 1991 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, and comes from a liberal faith background in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)[4], a denomination in which Thomas' father is a retired pastor. Born in November, 1968 as Aaron Thomas Steiner, he began using "Shawn Thomas" as his stage name in college and later legally changed it to "Shawn Aaron Thomas". His host ministry organization is named for his birth name, "Aaron's Rainbow Project" [5]. According to his website[6], he is described as an "out and affirming" contemporary Christian artist who "...incorporates traditional with non-traditional spiritual experiences believing that practices of faith and grace are never in conflict." Len Rogers, founder of the StoneWall Society [7], has this to say about Thomas' music and ministry in a quote take from his website: "Thankfully there is someone out there spreading the real message of Christianity in these times of hijacked perceptions." |
