Shawn Reddy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shawn Reddy (born July 16, 1973) is a Chicago playwright and director who "seeks to explode the idea that you can understand history by memorizing a collection of immutable facts: his eccentric plays based on historical research find the fault lines that indicate tectonic shifts in how we interpret the past" (Chicago Reader). Critically acclaimed for his "cleverly-crafted postmodern examinations of contemporary American life" (Chicago Tribune), Reddy's work has premiered in over thirty venues throughout the city of Chicago, including Museum of Contemporary Art, Steppenwolf Theatre, Chicago Cultural Center, Gene Siskel Film Center, Museum of Science and Industry, Gallery 2, Chopin Theater, Prop Theater, and Curious Theatre Branch.

[edit] Overview

Reddy received his BA in both Anthropology and Philosophy from the University of Chicago (1996), and his MFA in Studio Art from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2001). He is one half of the Magpies, an ongoing art-making collaboration with his wife, the Chicago essayist and solo performer, Robin Cline. He has also been an ensemble member for the past five years of the Curious Theatre Branch, "one of the most intriguing and influential avant-garde companies in Chicago, [a troupe that has] tapped their imaginations and collected some of the most radical, poetic, life-affirming fantasies Chicago has seen in recent years" (Chicago Reader).

Shawn currently lives in Chicago with his wife Robin and their daughter Ruby Lou.
