Aaron Shawn Estes (born February 18, 1973 in San Bernardino, California, USA) is a pitcher for the San Diego Padres. Estes had his best season as a professional in 1997, when he went 19-5 with a 3.18 ERA for the San Francisco Giants. He is also known for throwing a foot behind Roger Clemens as he tried to hit Clemens in retaliation for Clemens hitting Mike Piazza in the head two years earlier, and for swatting a home run off Clemens later in the game. He also has 4 career home runs and 28 RBIs, including a grand slam in 2000.
Estes was out for the 2006 season due to elbow surgery. The Padres signed him to a minor league contract on January 14.
Shawn Estes began his 2007 comeback with minor league appearances for the San Diego Padres. He pitched for Class A ball soon to be promoted to Triple A Portland 3 weeks later. After his first start in Portland, Estes had reaggravated his injured pitching elbow. He was placed on the disabled list retroactive to August 6. Estes resigned with the Padres on December 14, 2007, to a minor league contract.
On May 8, 2008, the Padres purchased his contract, and added him to the major league roster.
