Shashi District is a district in Jingzhou, Hubei, China. The nearest cities are Jingmen, Shiyan and Wuhan. Shashi is one of the 200 major cities of China, with a population of around 500,000.
The district is experiencing ecological problems due to its metal and chemical industry. The Yangtze river is most polluted in the area around Shashi harbor.
Shashi was founded in the late 18th century, but was largely destroyed in World War II. Most of its buildings were erected in the late 1950s and 1960s, but there has also been recent construction in the economical boom of the 21st century.
