Sharara is Arabic language word frequently used in Middle East and Asia but never in English. This article is about its usage in different countries and different cultures

It is hard to trace origin of Arabic word Sharara. In Hans Wehr's Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic we find šarāra meaning 'spark'. Interestingly, it is formed from the root šrr which normally connotes evil, but can also connote vivacity.In depth Google search reveals that this word is found in countries from Middle East to India. But meaning of this word remains same throughout this region i.e Spark of Fire. It rarely happens that one word is found in so many countries and languages without changing its meaning. Alternate spelling for the word 'sharara' are: sarara, sararah, shararah, sharaar, sharaaraa.

[edit] Arabic, Hindi and Urdu Word

Although Sharara is Arabic word, it also has usage in Malayalam, Hindi and Urdu language. It is often used in songs in India.

The word sharara can be found in songs in movies like Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Swades, The Killer (2006 film) etc.

In Urdu Poetry, the word 'sharaar' or 'sharar' is used instead of the word 'sharara'. But the meaning does not change. For example, Mirza Ghalib has used word 'sharaar' in one of his poetry.

The word sharara is rarely used as name in India. But it is used in Middle East as name or surname like Attia Sharara. It is used as name for Muslim baby girl. But the name is not confined only to Religion Islam, single Country and Gender. We find instances of boys having name 'sharara'.

Al Sharara is weeky socialist party organ in Aden, Yemen. It was named after Iskra. Russian word 'Iskra' also means Spark of Fire.

Sharara is also name used for south east Asian ladies Costume like Satrangi Sharara. The sharara is a long shirt and the pants are like a long skirt, but there a cut inbetween the legs. so its like pants, but really baggy pants.
