Career highlights

Shannon Grant (born April 19, 1977) is an Australian rules footballer who is known as one of the premier midfielders in the AFL. He began his career at the Sydney Swans in 1995 before moving to the Kangaroos in 1998 and being a part of their 1999 premiership side. In 1996 he actually played against North Melbourne in the Grand final, playing on the losing side of Sydney He has recently signed a 3 year deal with the Kangaroos.

In the 2005 season, Shannon Grant was involved in numerous comeback victories by the Kangaroos. The first was in Round 2 against the Sydney Swans at Manuka Oval. Trailing by 17 points at 3 quarter time, Grant and his team mates lifted with Grant kicking 3 goals to help the Roos to a convinicing win. The following week against St Kilda, the 'Roos again lifted from a 3rd quarter shocker, trailing against the highly fancied St Kilda. Grant once again kicked 4 goals in the last quarter to defeat the Saints by 7 points, 100-93. Grant's fourth was a 'ripper' from 5 meters in from the boundary 45 metres out. Then later in Round 19, the Kangaroos trailed by 3 goals with 4 minutes to play against the lowly Collingwood at the Telstra Dome. Saverio Rocca goaled from the boundary to bring the margin back to 12 points. Then from the centre bounce, the Roos got the ball to Grant who took a shocking bounce, then somehow followed up with a helicopter kick from 55 meters out that floated through. Then just seconds later, thanks to Drew Petrie, the big guy got the ball cleanly to Grant who goaled from outside 50 to bring scores level. Collingwood controlled the ball for the remainder of the game until Daniel Pratt took a strong mark in the defensive 50 area. He kicked a lovely pass to Daniel Wells who got it to Brent Harvey who took a bounce and delivered with precise kicking to the leading big man, Nathan Thompson. Thompson needed just a point to give the Roos the win and from 50 meters out on the boundary, Thompson did even better by kicking a goal and he guestured with a Hulk Hogan fist pump and the win belonged to the Kangaroos. However the Kangaroos lost their first elimination final so none of this really mattered.
