Shankar Mahadevan is an Indian singer and music composer. He is an engineering graduate trained in Carnatic and Hindustani classical music. He is a popular singer in Kollywood industry in South India

Shankar Mahadevan hails from a Tamil family. In Bollywood he is more popularly known as part of the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio of music directors. He has also served as a celebrity judge in the for Dil Chahta Hai

He works as a music director with two others, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonca (see also: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy), who rose to fame after their music for the movie Dil Chahta Hai became an instant hit. Shankar Mahadevan is a singer, Ehsaan is a guitar specialist, and Loy a keyboard player.

Shankar Mahadevan has provided vocals for several pieces by the Shakti group, which features such maestros as A.R.Rahman, Zakir Hussain and John Mclaughlin.
