Shane Parrish was a fictional character on the Australian television soap opera series Home and Away. The character was played by actor Dieter Brummer.
[edit] Character Information
Shane first arrived in Summer Bay in 1992, as the wayward teenage brother of local police constable Nick Parrish. Shane quickly made his mark on Summer Bay by stealing the car of Ryan Lee, the former flame of Nick's girlfriend Lucinda Croft, and dumping it in the sea.
Shane began hanging around with Damian Roberts, whose foster parents Michael and Pippa Ross thought that Shane was a bad influence on Damian.
In late 1992, Shane was framed for burglary by Tug O'Neale and sentenced to serve some time in a juvenile detention centre. Even though Shane was released and found not guilty, he still planned to get back at Tug somehow.
In 1993, Shane met teenage runaway Angel Brooks who was immediately hostile to him. Shane convinced Donald Fisher, Lucinda's uncle who he and Nick were living with at the time, to let Angel live with them.
Sometime later during a school play performed at the Surf Club, where Shane starred opposite Sarah Thompson, Tug's girlfriend, Shane took the chance to get back at Tug by overdoing a kissing scene, prompting Tug to leave his seat and attack Shane on stage. The confrontation was quickly broken up by teacher Luke Cunningham and Alf Stewart.
In 1994, Angel revealed to Shane that she had given birth to a son, Dylan, at age 14 and surrendered custody to his father and grandmother. Shane stood by Angel and that strengthened their relationship and Shane later proposed and Angel accepted.
In early 1995, fate took a cruel twist when Angel was left paralysed after being accidentally run over by Alf. Several months later, Shane and Angel married after Angel, with the help of Donald, managed to make it down the aisle.
In the season finale of 1995, Shane suffered a horrific motorcycle crash that forced him to have a splenectomy.
A few months later, while out one day with Angel and Dylan, Shane collapsed and died, due to septicemia from the operation, leaving Angel widowed and pregnant.
Angel later gave birth to a baby girl and named her Shane, in honour of her father.
