[edit] Playing career
[edit] Club
O’Neill plays hurling with his local club Bishopstown and has enjoyed much success. He has won two county minor medals and one under-21 county medal. In 2006 O’Neill played a key role at half-back when the club won the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship. This victory allowed Bishopstown to secure promotion to the senior grade for 2007.
[edit] Inter-county
O’Neill first came to prominence as a hurler in 2004 when Cork won the Munster minor title. In the subsequent All-Ireland semi-final against Galway he excelled during an otherwise poor display for Cork which resulted in a defeat. By 2005 O’Neill had joined the Cork under-21 hurling team. That year he won a Munster title in that grade, however, the All-Ireland Medal still eluded him.
As a result of the suspension of Diarmuid O'Sullivan, O’Neill made his senior debut in the Munster semi-final against Waterford on June 17, 2007. He was again a member of the team in 2008 and has been described as "quietly effective" [1] [2]
