Shams Attar Ardabili is amongst the well known poets of Azerbaijan. Most writers consider him more gnostic and highly characterized than Shams Tabrizi. He mentions in a couplet that:

                                  شمس از اردبيل کرده طلوع       شمس تبريز تحت طلعت اوست                     

It is said that he had a "poetical work" in verse, but unfortunately there is no trace of it. Ardabili also has beautiful poems in Turkish (Azeri) language with praises and lamentation on religious family of our great messenger. (in elegiac style)
