[edit] History

October 2000, Matti and Janne come up with an idea of a band playing slow, dreamlike material. During the winter, some songs are written and recorded. As they need someone to vocalize their words scribbled down in distress, they ask Mika to try it out. Mikas voice fits the music perfectly and in autumn 2001 this trio gives birth to the first ShamRain - release. Pieces EP sees the light of day the next February.

In 2002 the first permanent guitarist, Kalle, joins the band. Later the band signs a deal with Watch Me Fall - Records. The recordings of a debut album, 'Empty World Excursion', take place during the autumn 2003. By this time, the bands music has evolved into a combination of dark melancholic rock and slow, ethereal elements. EWE is released in December and gains a lot of good reviews.

The following year Shamrain releases a 7" vinyl EP and participates in a The Cure - tribute album. In autumn 2004, 13 new demo songs get recorded. A second guitarist, Mikko, is recruited to enforce the band and a new deal is written with Firebox - Records. In December recordings of a new album get started at Akun Tehdas and the final touch is made at FinnVox studios on spring. The album is titled 'Someplace Else' and released in June 2005. It includes some new elements, still being a logical sequel to EWE. Again, a lot of great feedback is gained, including many 'full points' reviews.

During the following winter ShamRain records a new MCD and finally plays it's first gigs. 'Deeper into the night' is released April 2006 revealing Shamrain more uptempo than ever, whilst maintaining the quiet and slow moments that make their sound unique.

While getting the songs together for the 3rd album, Shamrain is offered a deal by Spikefarm Records. As soon as the deal is sorted out, the band escapes the summer brightness to the studio. The sessions turn out to be the hardest Shamrain - sessions ever. It takes a lot of despair and disagreements, not to mention time, to get the album finalized, but it seems to be worth it. The new album represents the band more challenging and varieting as never before. The basic, ethereal SR-elements are still there, while the progress is getting the band into more rocking scales in the vein of british legends, Radiohead, The Cure, Placebo and Porcupine Tree. The album is titled 'Goodbye to All That' and released 31.10.2007. [1]
