Shakopee-Mdewakanton Indian Reservation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is located within parts of the cities of Prior Lake and Shakopee in Scott County, Minnesota, and was previously known as Prior Lake Indian Reservation until it was modified by the Indian Reorganization Act on November 28, 1969. As of the 2000 census, there was a population of 338 persons living on reservation land. All of the population lived in the Prior Lake portion of the reservation, which comprises 80 percent of its land area. The portion in the city of Shakopee was uninhabited at that time. The tribe operates the Mystic Lake Casino and Little Six Casino, which are very successful due to their proximity to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.

"Mystic Lake Casino Hotel" is named after the man-made lake of the same name located in the Shakopee-Mdewakanton Indian Reservation within the city of Prior Lake, Minnesota. The tribe operates the casino, which is successful due to its proximity to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. It is a dry casino, thus alcohol is not permitted in the casino, restaurants, hotel, meeting rooms, or anywhere in the facility. Mystic Lake Casino features five restaurants, a 600-room hotel, convention center, golf course, and RV Park.
