[edit] Story
Shako was the first to discover Midoriko's cave which was prevented by a barrier, also that it could only be passed if one's mind was filled with sympathy for the dead soldiers from war. After slaying the centipede demon (Mistress Centipede) who possessed the Shikon no Tama, Shako is appalled by the tainted use of the jewel, since it were in the hands of Mistress Centipede, an evil demon tainted by the desire of the jewel.
Shako seems to have knowledge already of the jewel, as with Sango, who acknowledges the history from his grandfather and also of many poisons relating to any demons - and concludes after sighting it that such impurity was to be purified by the enabled priestess Kikyo. He understands the history of Midoriko and the jewel, knowing it desired by many demons. It was then declared by him to be protected by Kikyo, who was able to deflect demons with her spiritual powers. Shako only appeared in episode 147: The Tragic Love Song of Destiny.
