Shakir Ali

Shakir Ali (1914–1975) was a Pakistani artists and teacher. He was principal of the National College of Arts in Lahore. He joined Mayo School of Art as Lecturer in Art in 1954 and after the up-grading of Mayo School as National College of Arts in 1958, he became his first Pakisani principal in 1962. Widely known to have inspired Cubism among the artist of Lahore, he had a huge following of artist in Pakistan, most of whom were his students.

On 14th August 2006, Pakistan Post issued a Rs. 40 sheetlet to posthumous honour 10 Pakistani Painters. Besides Shakir Ali, the other 9 painters are: Laila Shahzada, Askari Mian Irani, Sadequain, Ali Imam, Zahoor ul Akhlaq, Anna Molka Ahmed, Zubeida Agha, Ahmed Pervez and Bashir Mirza.
