Shakhunya

Shakhunya (Russian: Шахунья) is a town in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, located on the Nizhny Novgorod–Kirov railroad, 240 km northeast of Nizhny Novgorod. Population: 21,724 (2002 Census); 22,337 (1989 Census).
It was founded as a settlement around the railway station of Shakhunya, which was opened in 1927. It was granted work settlement status in 1938 and town status in 1943.
