Shakespeare Schools Festival
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Shakespeare Schools Festival is an organisation that enables school children aged 11 to 16 to perform abridged versions of Shakespeare's plays all over the United Kingdom. It began in 2000 as a regional pilot before expanding to a nation wide event.
In 2007 it will launch two new projects: the Shakespeare Youth Festival, a project for 16 to 21 year olds encouraging them to set-up their own theatre company to produce a play and Shakespeare 24, a 24 hour worldwide performance day.
Its main aim is to try to get young "up and coming" actors to improve their dramatic skills through Shakespeare.
