Shahzada Alam Monnoo(Industrialist of Pakistan)

Mr Shahzada Alam was appointed as caretaker federal minister of commerce, textile industry, privatization and investment on 15 November 2007, at the expiration of the previous government of shaukat aziz. His term ended on 25 March 2008, when the new government of Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani was sworn in.

Shahzada Alam Monnoo was born in 1936. He belongs to a well-known Chinyoti Business family. Shahzada Alam Monnoo completed his education from Aitchison College Lahore and College of Textile, NC State College North California, USA.

He is the president of Monnoo Group of Industries, which owns a number of diversified industries in Pakistan. He is regarded as one of the richest persons in Pakistan. He has been chairman APTMA (All Pakistan Textile Mills Association) and Lahore Chamber of Commerce.

He is also a well known philantropist. He has made considerable contributions towards the Business Hospital Trust, Lahore, Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore and Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital, Lahore. He also established various mosques in the country.

Monnoo House, the Head office building of the Monnoo Group Stands on the Montgomery Road in the city of gates, Lahore. Monnoo Group has Industries diversified into agricultural farming and mangos, but its main sectors are the Sugar industry and Textiles. He is the man who introduced the Toyota Motors assembly plant in 1965 in Karachi, then known as Monnoo Toyota Motors, but this industry was nationalized by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, back in 1971, along with many other. He is highly influential in the textile sector in Pakistan. His son Shahbaz Monnoo is married to the grand daughter of Syed Wajid Ali, the ex-chairman of Packages Limited.

Mr Monnoos son Shabaz Alam Monnoo is the head of most of the units owned by the monnoo group. He is also an old Aitchisonian.

Mr Monnoo has credit to establish 18 textile mills, one sugar mill,and modern orchard, in Pakistan.He served as Chairman, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and remained President of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.He also contributed in various sectors as Director-National Fibres Limited, Director-Pakistan Industries Credit and Investment Corporation Limited,Member, Board of Governors, Aitchison College, Lahore, Member, Board of Governors, Postgraduate Medical Institute/Services Hospital, Lahore and Director, Trust for Voluntary Organization, Ministry of Economic Affairs. He also served as President in various organization including Gojra Samundri Sugar Mills Ltd., Monnoo Industries Ltd., the Lahore Textile and General mills Ltd-I and II, Rawal Textile mills Ltd, Olympia Blended Fibre Mills Ltd-I and II, Margalls Textile Mills Ltd-I and II, Tribal Textile Mills Ltd. and Qureshi Textile Mills Ltd. He also served as member, Finance Advisory Council, member, Commerce Advisory Council, member, National Committee for the Promotion of Sports and Athletics in Educational Institutions
