Shahid Karimullah

Admiral Shahid Karimullah is the former naval chief of Pakistan Navy who commanded the navy from October 2002 to October 2005 and then served as Pakistan's ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He was commissioned in the navy operations branch in 1965. He is a communication specialist, a graduate of the US Naval War College, and National Defence College, Islamabad. Admiral Karimullah commanded two destroyers, the 25th Destroyer Squadron and the Fleet. He was wounded, while commanding a gunboat in the 1971 war and was awarded Sitara-i-Jurat. He was promoted to the rank of vice-admiral while holding the present appointment as Pakistan Fleet commander. He was replaced by Admiral Afzal Tahir as the naval chief when he was due to retire in 2005.[1]
