Coordinates: 17°08′N 76°56′E / 17.13, 76.93 Shahabad is a town in Gulbarga district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is a town which can be widely divided into the following areas:

Nandur, Bazaar, Old Shahabad, ALSTOM & HMP Colonies(The HMP Cement factory was closed since many years back resulting in huge economic set-back for the town).

The river Kagina passes through Shahabad and is a major source of water for the town.

Agriculture, Lime stone mines , boiler and cement production are the main sources of Income.

The Cement factory in the town - which was 'HMP' earlier - has been reopened , under other management though.

Yes, it is this town from where Akshaya Kumar comes from!!, not the film star but a normal person named "Akshaya Kumar" from his residence on Hongunta road.

Shahabad is located at 17.13° N 76.93° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 391 metres (1282 feet). Shahabad is mostly know for its World famous Stone Mines and Limestone Mines.

As of 2001 India census[2], Shahabad had a population of 50,587. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Shahabad has an average literacy rate of 57%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 48%. In Shahabad, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
