Description

Diagram of geometry involved in impact collision ion scattering spectroscopy. Analysis of a surface with known d_1 \,\! allows for determination of the shape of the shadowing cone. Similarly, measuring scattering from a subsurface atom at varying angles can give information about the direction and length of the surface-subsurface bond (when the shadow cone shape is known).
