Shugoro Nakazato (中里 周五郎 Nakazato Shūgorō?, born 1921) is an Okinawan martial artist who is the grand master of the Shorin-ryu Shorinkan style of Okinawan Karate. Nakazato began his karate training in Shitō-ryū from 1935-1940 as a student of Seiichi Iju. In 1946 after Nakazato returned from fighting in World War II, he became a student of Chosin Chibana in Kobayashi Shorin-ryū.[1][2][3] After Chibana's death in 1969, Nakazato assumed the title of Vice President of the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Karate-do Association. In November of 1975, Nakazato resigned from this association and formed the Okinawa Karate-do Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Association.[4] Nakazato is ranked Hanshi, 10th Dan.[5][6]
