Nakazato began his karate training in Shitō-ryū from 1935-1940 as a student of Seiichi Iju. In 1946 after Nakazato returned from fighting in World War II, he became a student of Chosin Chibana in Kobayashi Shorin-ryū.[1][2][3] After Chibana's death in 1969, Nakazato assumed the title of Vice President of the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Karate-do Association.
