[edit] Yamagishi and Camera Mainichi

Yamagishi is quickly described on p.53 of Sandra S. Phillips, "Currents in photography in postwar Japan", within Shōmei Tōmatsu: Skin of the Nation (Yale UP, 2004). Phillips -- who says that "friends and others referred to [Yamagishi] as the emperor of photography in Japan" -- claims that he became editor of Camera Mainichi in 1958. This needs checking. (She also calls CM one of a number of "small magazines"; other than by the standards of Holiday and Shutterbug, it certainly was not small, even in 1954.) -- Hoary 13:55, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
