[edit] Undoing edits

Hello, Sfterry. I don't understand why edits made (initially) by me on pseudoxanthoma elasticum were undone.[1] If you had given an edit summary it may have been more straightforward. It is generally considered as undesirable to undo edits without comments unless they are obvious vandalism - something that cannot be leveled against my edits.

I intend to update the article using PMID 15894595. This article is a good source for the genetic details of ABCC6 mutations, and quite comprehensively cites the clinical picture of PXE. I hope you can agree to that.

Sorry - I have only one motive - excellent information for individuals affected by pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE). I have, with my medical director, Lionel Bercovitch, examined over 400 individuals with PXE and collected medical records on over 600 patients. I coordinate 36 laboratories working on PXE. I have convened two consensus conferences on PXE in the last 5 years and am about to start a clinical trial at NIH. I think that is enough background to make edits on a rare disease entry. In addition, I am the president and CEO if Genetic Alliance and oversee the capacity building in 600 disease specific advocacy organizations covering 1000 genetic conditions and I am the founder of WikiGenetics and WikiAdvocacy. Thanks for improving the PXE article. I'm glad you've implicitly agreed with my expansion of the article. As I've stated in my earlier email, I'm impressed with your contributions to this complicated field of medicine, and obviously your expertise is very much invited on Wikipedia. It would be entirely helpful if you could convince like-minded experts to assist in improving Wikipedia articles. This would certainly improve both the Wikipedia articles in question and the information available to patients (and their carers) with rare genetic conditions.

[edit] Changes

You made some rather sweeping changes to the PXE article, including the replacement of a key reference (Chassaing) with a somewhat newer paper that is not a review but a case series. Of note, the new paper does not include some of the facts that the Chassaing paper introduces (e.g. the oblique mental crease, the pseudo-PXE observed in sickle cell disease). Finally, you removed mention of premature atherosclerotic disease, using the Pfendner reference to back this up, but the paper does not seem to discuss this at all (apart from saying that myocardial infarction is rare).

I have changed things back to a large extent (especially restoring the Chassaing paper), but I have added the Pfendner paper in the "pathophysiology" section, together with the Schulz paper (because it expressly disproves the findings of that paper). JFW | T@lk 06:10, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

I saw you also deleted the Trip paper, with the edit summary that this association had been disproven. It seems the Trip paper made quite an impact, so it would have been more helpful if you had left the paper in place but added references that show that the association could not be confirmed. I note your creation of PXE International. I hope you don't mind I've tagged it with {{wikify}}, because most of the article lacks links.

Could I draw your attention to WP:COI, our "conflict of interest" guideline. I am not suggesting your article is biased, but some of the content could be toned down to sound more neutral. JFW | T@lk 09:32, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I give up working in Wikipedia. I will delete it. I have started two other wikis to serve the disease advocacy community with accurte information since people who don't know about these conditions continue to modify entries.
Could you urgently clarify whether Kinuvian (talk · contribs) is an alternative account used by yourself? Its only creation is Sharon F. Terry, which is remarkably similar in style to Patrick F. Terry and the PXEI page. I am not questioning your motives, but use of undeclared alternative accounts is discouraged. JFW | T@lk 09:53, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow or move it unilaterally while discussion about it is underway. We have some guidelines to help with deciding what title is best for a subject. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Thank you. {{db-author}} doesn't apply if you aren't the creator, if you want Sharon F. Terry deleted, you must log in with the other account and say that you are the same person. Though I have to tell you that deletion is not automatic. In its current state, PXE International is likely be kept, other editors have invested time there. Cenarium (talk) 18:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
I am not the author, but got a message about it from someone who thinks it has no place on Wikipedia. I agree and don't need or want a page about me - I am not a famous or noteworthy person. It will get deleted anyway since whomever told me about it said it did not meet Wikipedia's requirements.

I am the author of both this and the website you cite, so I don't need permission - but this is too complicated for me to spend time on, so please speedily delete the page. I tried deleting it and was told to place the delete tag on it - hopefully it will be gone soon and you all won't have to spend your time on it. I have created a wiki for disease specific organizations so we don't have to figure out all of these difficult rules you have here. [edit] Speedy deletion of Patrick F. Terry

A tag has been placed on Patrick F. Terry requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
