[edit] Islamic Barnstar Award
Please offer your opinion, vote, or whatever about your choice for the image to be used with the Islamic Barnstar Award at the Barnstar proposals page. Although there is consensus for the concept of an Islamic Barnstar Award, some editors would like to change the image for the award. I was just thinking you should be aware of this discussion because you have contributed to Islamic-related articles, received the Islamic Barnstar Award, or have contributed to the Islam-related Wikiprojects, etc.--JuanMuslim 1m 16:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP:WHMT
Hello. You may or may not remember this, but some time ago you signed up for a Hangman Tournament hosted here on Wikipedia. The next tournament is about to start, and I was just wondering if you were still interested in participating. If you are, please go to the page (linked above) and bold your name in the sign-up list. This will confirm your registration. If you are not interested any more, please feel free to remove your name from the list. If you haven't responded within 7 days, I will assume you are not interested, and remove you from the list.
If you think anyone else may be interested in this tournament, please drop them a note and ask them to sign up. Good luck, and I hope to see you at the tournament! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka Talk to me! 13:40, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:RA-FitS.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:RA-FitS.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ResurgamII 16:22, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello, SFGiants/Archive 2. You may or may not remember signing up for the Wikipedia Hangman Tournament, but the time has finally arrived for you to start your game! You have until 15:46, 16 June 2008 (UTC) to begin your game by typing {{Wikipedia:WikiHangman Tournament/New|~~~~}} on the corresponding round page. You should also visit your match page, as you will be able to see various aspects of your match.
I would also suggest:
- Familiarizing yourself with the rules of the tournament. The rules include how to win, how to play, and how to navigate amongst the various pages of the tournament.
- Visiting the Tournament 2 page, which has the rules and pairing for the tournament. Use the tournament tree to see tournament updates, as well as
- Placing Wikipedia:WikiHangman Tournament/Tournament 2/Match 5/Round 1/A, Wikipedia:WikiHangman Tournament/Tournament 2/Match 5/Round 1/B, and Wikipedia:WikiHangman Tournament/Tournament 2/Match 5 on your Special:Watchlist, as each of these will be updated with or without notice. As the match progresses, add subsequent pages to your watchlist.
If you have any questions at all regarding the procedures and rules of this tournament, please feel free to contact me at my talk page. Thanks again, and good luck!
In case you are wondering why it took so long to begin this tournament, my computer was not operating correctly, and my Internet usage was limited to public computers. My opportunities to use public computers were limited, so needless to say, I didn't have a lot of time to commit to Wikipedia. So, sorry if this has caused you any inconvience. Good luck! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 02:24, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nikhil Parekh
I have just placed this notice on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nikhil Parekh page, and am bringing every voter's attention to it as promised.
Comment. Sigh. Despite the inevitable tirade that this will unleash, I am sorry to have to bring new information to the table. I have this morning received an email from Vijaya Ghose, editor of the Limca Book of Records. "Dear Mr (----), We have enlisted a couple of claims of Nikhil Parekh. Longest Poem is not one of them. He has formidable competition in John Milton's Paradise Lost and our own Mahabharata. However, he has written to many heads of state and has received replies but not from the head of state but the secretary or executive assistant. He is is the first from India to feature on Eppie. We checked with them. Regards Vijaya Ghose. So Parekh, though probably not notable as a poet, is indeed an Indian world record holder. I suspect that this changes the balance on his notability, though the article would still require a great deal of clear-up. I will notify everyone who took part in this vote and ask admins to extend debate a little. Sorry.
I don't know whether this changes your vote, but thought you should know. Vizjim 06:05, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] wikEd
Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.
wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus:• syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • morefixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages• convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjustthe font size • and much, much more.
Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Usually it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

[edit] Untagged image
An image you uploaded, Image:Zehlendorf.png, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 13:42, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:World map places traveled.svg
Thanks for uploading Image:World map places traveled.svg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:12, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello SFGiants, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Portalimage.gif) was found at the following location: User:SFGiants/The boring part. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not readd the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. VanTucky, you're taking a typically legalistic approach to defending your uncouth and uncivil comments on the "Toupee" discussion page. I have no interest in engaging in discussion with you, and consider you an annoyance. If you attempt to have me banned, be aware that anyone handling your request will see your actions for what they are. In my personal opinion, and I trust I'm allowed to have one on my own User Talk page, you're a self-righteous annoyance.24.15.208.65 06:12, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Further, I've been contributing to Wikipedia longer than you have. I, unlike you, don't feel the need to throw up flags at every instance or criticize the contributions of others by saying they are "pointless and trivial". Say what you wish - that IS arrogant language, with apparently arrogant intent, by an apparently arrogant person. 24.15.208.65 02:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

REgarding this:
As stated in the section above, your user talk page is not yours. It belongs to the entire community, which means you cannot do whatever you want to it. I found some of your other comments amusing as well. You say that you have been editing on Wikipedia longer than I have. A quick check of your editcount and my editcount reveals this to be the case by 8 days, but I have been editing on an IP since January 2005. I would also like to point out that I have almost 25 times as many edits as you. I do not find VanTucky's language arrogant; to the contrary, it is standard language and I woulduse the same. Regards, ¿SFGiДnts! ¿Complain!
I amused you? How charming. You're not the only one that logs in from different IP addresses and maintains a login ID. My time on the IP address shown starts from around the time we moved to our present home, and I rarely use it compared to logging in at work during lunch or using my login id. Count up all edits from all locations and IDs, and then compare. I don't make Wikipedia my life either.
Regardless of who has more experience on Wikipedia - I'll grant you that - my comments about Vantucky are with regard to his comments on the "toupee" page, which is an odd topic to get hot and bothered about. If this is standard language -- "Sorry to burst your bubble but Wikipedia isn't a Party" -- then I'm Howard Cosell. In his further replies the snideness fairly dripped from the screen. It doesn't take much typing to be civil, and before HE started polluting the 24.15 talk page, I had never corresponded with another editor except on an Article talk page. After the past several days, I don't plan on talking much ever again. Too many legalists. 24.15.208.65 12:30, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Out of curiosity, did you actually fail Mamilla for one unreferenced statement? Your GA fail assess for that article was all good except for "references" and your narrative at the bottom discussed one statement. Hey, thanks for your note. The secret is.. there is no secret! It's really down to dedicating a large portion of my life to getting six featured articles which means that I can spot most flaws in articles at ten paces. Things like WP:MOS failures I find particularly irksome because in most cases they're very straightforward to fix, so much so that rather than fail or hold a GA because of it, I'll fix the issues myself and carry on.

[edit] Banglapedia GA
I have removed the part that was "neither referenced nor NPOV". There seems to be no other problem with the article. Can I renominate now? Aditya(talk • contribs) 04:11, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- Not just a fellow Bengali, but also, apparently, a fellow admirer of science fiction giants - Wales, Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Silverberg, Lem, Strugatsky brothers - oh, the list continues. Well, about Banglapedia - how far is this OR thing is applicable you think, since the subject itself is one of the most authentic sources of information in Bangladesh? Much of the details on the content comes from the book itself, and it has long been established on the WP as a verifiable and authentic source. There's a dilemma involved here, I guess. There's a possible compromise - may be you can provide the second opinion about which parts need citation (just slap on a {{fact}} tag), and I'll try to address the problem. BTW, which part of Bengal are you from? Cheers. Aditya(talk • contribs) 04:42, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
