Seyoum Mesfin

Seyoum Mesfin (Seyoum Mesfin Gebredingle) (born January 1949) is the current Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Born in Tigray Province, Seyoum has a science training and academic background, gained first at Bahar Dar Polytechnic Institute and later from his four-year tenure at the Science Faculty of Addis Ababa University.
He started managing the conduct of Ethiopia’s diplomacy following the overthrow of the Derg in May 1991 by the forces of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF).
Besides his present post as Foreign Minister, Seyoum Mesfin continues to serve as the Deputy Chairperson of the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF), a member of the 4-party coalition that forms the EPRDF. He also serves as an Executive Member of the EPRDF. In the TPLF, he is Meles Zenawi's Deputy.
Mesfin is married and has four children, who are attending college in the United States.
