"Sex and Candy" is the first single released by Marcy Playground from their self titled debut album Marcy Playground. It was released in 1997. The song was written by John Wozniak, produced by Jim Sabella & Kenny Gioia, and engineered by Kenny Gioia & Bill Seasack. "Sex and Candy" was a large hit in 1998, spending a then-record fifteen weeks at number one on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks chart (the record was previously held by Oasis for their 1995 hit "Wonderwall"). It was also the band's only major pop hit, reaching number eight on the Billboard Hot 100.

[edit] Covers and parodies

The song was covered in part in comedian/musician "Weird Al" Yankovic's song "Polka Power" on his 1999 album Running With Scissors.

It was parodied on the popular television sketch show Saturday Night Live by Jimmy Fallon on Weekend Update featuring lyrics changed to go with a Halloween theme.
