[edit] Proposed merge

I have proposed that the article Seward Township, Illinois be merged into Seward Township, Kendall County, Illinois. Both articles are about the same place, and the latter page seems to me to be the better home, to disambiguate this township's article from Seward Township, Winnebago County, Illinois. --ShelfSkewed Talk 05:03, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

I agree, although I will write to the Secretary of State's office to complain because it is illegal for the township name to be used twice in two different counties. Has anyone been able to determine which county used it first? I know that Kendall County was settled before Winnebago County, but it is possible that townships were renamed after being initially established. Racepacket 07:46, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Merge: I agree that it needs to be merged into Seward Township, Kendall County, Illinois. As far as legality wise you are going to have to go against a lot of townships and piss a lot of people off. I know I would be deeply insulted to change the township name I was in. To answer your question though, Seward Township, Winnebago County, Illinois had the name first, Seward that is in Kendall County renamed itself from Franklin Township at an unknown date, but after both counties were formed at the same time in November 6, 1849.--Kranar drogin 19:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
