Sewickley Township is a township in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,230 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 26.8 square miles (69.5 km²), of which, 26.6 square miles (68.9 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²) of it (0.75%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 6,230 people, 2,519 households, and 1,803 families residing in the township. The population density was 234.0 people per square mile (90.4/km²). There were 2,669 housing units at an average density of 100.3/sq mi (38.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.99% White, 0.16% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.58% of the population.

There were 2,519 households out of which 28.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% were non-families. 25.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the township the population was spread out with 21.8% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $32,677, and the median income for a family was $40,011. Males had a median income of $33,922 versus $20,785 for females. The per capita income for the township was $15,846. About 11.8% of families and 13.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.6% of those under age 18 and 10.3% of those age 65 or over.
