Wikipedia:Settlements

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I propose a policy about settlements (can i do that?) and disputed territories. Anyone volunteer?

I suggest something along the lines of noting it being a settlement in the opening sentence and allowing the use of the terms 'city,' 'town,' 'suburb,' or 'village' but not 'neighborhood' because connotations that term and others may carry.

But what if it isn't a city, town, suburb, or village? Should we invent something rather than describing the reality? If that reality is distasteful then ignoring it would be counterproductive. --Robert
I just find it very ironic that my own neighborhood, or any that I can think of and look up, aren't described as a neighborhood on Wikipedia, but so many Israeli Settlements are. I don't have a problem with the term 'neighborhood' as long as it is not used exclusively to describe an area that may also be just as much a Settlement as it is a neighborhood. Also, unless there is some sort of neighborhood association or town council - the term neighborhood can be incredibly subjective, don't you agree? I'm not sure what you mean, but as there is so much politics involved, maybe that is mixing up things. --Robertert (talk)
